The Ouachita Parish Cattleman’s Association says in the next few years, Northeast Louisiana could experience a shortage in cattle farmers. The cause, they say, is the expense of maintenance.
Officials say the cost of food for the animals, equipment and more are causing cattle farmers to leave the profession.
“The older generation seems to be exiting the cattle industry due to cost. Local beef prices in your stores and even for the local ranchers has gone up,” says Ouachita Parish Cattleman’s Association board member, Drake May. “The cost of equipment, diesel, feed, all the product
