BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) -- Kern County may be finally terminating its routine proclamation of a local emergency due to the Borel Fire on Tuesday after over a year, according to the Kern County Board of Supervisors agenda.

The board signed the proclamation for the first time on July 30, 2024, and has since reviewed and renewed the proclamation seven times, being required to do so at least once every 60 days.

“Though work continues to repair local infrastructure damage created by this wildfire, staff assesses the conditions supporting the need for a local proclamation of emergency are abated,” Kern County Fire Chief Aaron Duncan said in a letter to the board.
