KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- A growing number of daycare providers across Kansas City, Missouri, say they've been caught in a battle with the city, one that could have threatened their businesses, confused parents, and potentially violated state law.
For months, these providers have voiced concerns over a new city ordinance requiring childcare facilities to keep epinephrine auto-injectors—commonly known as EpiPens—onsite.
However, under state law, acquiring those life-saving medications without a prescription may not even be legal for many facilities.
A little over a week ago the controversy reached a boiling point after providers received letters from the city with an ultimatum: sign a permit by this Friday or face penalties.
