The Kenai Peninsula Food Bank wrapped up its “Freedom From Hunger” food drive on Sept. 13, collecting an impressive 3,100 lbs of food to support local families ahead of the winter season.

“Tangible food that we received is 2,800 lbs, and then we received about $600 worth of cash donations, and that equates to about another 300 pounds worth of food,” said Johna Beech, Executive Director of the food bank.

The three-week drive brought together schools, businesses, and individuals from Nikiski, Kenai, Soldotna, and Sterling. Donation bins were placed at grocery stores, including Walmart, Fred Meyer, Safeway, Three Bears, Save U More, and IGA.
