BURLINGTON, Vt. (ABC22/FOX44) - Burlington is prepared to help residents keep "more energy dollars in the local economy."

Burlington officials and statewide representatives joined fifth-graders from Champlain Elementary School Monday to announce that rebates for new electric vehicle (EV) purchases will increase to $5,000, more than double the current $2,300.

The change is meant to offset the expiration at the end of this month of a federal tax credit for EV purchases.

"Reversing the harmful effects of climate change, and making our community climate resilient, will require both bold policy solutions, and collective action on the part of residences. Together we can and will create a vibrant, resilient community that will benefit generations to come,” said Mulvaney-Stanak.
