GRAND FORKS – The first phase of the Altru Sports Complex will begin to take shape in the next month and passersby will be able to see the steel outline of the building by spring.
The Grand Forks City Council received the update at its meeting Monday night during a lengthy discussion about the second phase of the project, which includes basketball courts and sports training turf.
The council was first presented with the question: four basketball courts, or two? According to representatives from JLG Architects, the cost of the four-court design would be $19.5 million and would put the city on track to come in roughly $500,000 under the project’s $110 million budget. The cost of the two-court design – which would include room for a possible expansion into four courts – would be $13.7 milli
