A staffer for NSW Greens Senator David Shoebridge has been branded "nasty" over her tweets about Charlie Kirk's assassination.

Kirk, 31, was shot dead while holding a Turning Point USA event at Utah Valley University on September 10.

In the wake of his death, freedom of speech has become a hot topic of debate, as many people came under fire for making disparaging remarks about Kirk, or even celebrating his assassination.

People were sacked or investigated across the United States for making insensitive comments about Kirk's death.

Late night talk show host Jimmy Kimmel last week had his show suspended after he made controversial remarks about the shooting in an opening monologue on his show.
