NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) - North Charleston Police have announced the arrest of a man for unlawful possession of a handgun by a convicted felon.

Isiah Stroud, 38, was arrested and charged on Sept. 16 with unlawful possession of a firearm by a person convicted of a violent crime, according to North Charleston Police.

Stroud was arrested near Rivers and Helm Avenues in an area with increased police patrols for ongoing drug activity and crime.

An officer on patrol saw Stroud trying to avoid them before hitting another vehicle. Officers noticed the smell of marijuana upon contact and detained Stroud.

A handgun was found in the center console during a vehicle search.

Records showed that Stroud has multiple prior convictions for violent crimes and is prohibited from possessing a gun.
