Residents in Australia’s most expensive city will soon be slapped with higher water bills.

The state-owned Sydney Water will increase prices by 13.8 per cent, including inflation, from October 1, it announced on Tuesday.

Bills are then said to increase by about 5.1 per cent, not including inflation, per year until 2030.

The jump in prices for Sydneysiders is said to have followed an independent review by pricing regulator the Independent Pricing and Regulatory Tribunal (IPART).
