RENSSELAER, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- The community in the City of Rensselaer came together for a candlelight vigil to honor Brent Monday night. “This is very humbling and overwhelming. And I just couldn't be more grateful for all of you who are here to celebrate the life of my child,” said Brent’s mom Anne.

The 32-year-old died after being stabbed to death just after midnight Sunday on John Street.

As community members and candlelight filled the park Brent’s mom remembered the giving nature of her son. “At the end of his shift he gave his shoes and socks to one of our homeless population, who was a regular in our department. And that is who Brent was,” said the grieving mother.
