MURRAY – While Calloway County received some much-needed rain early Monday morning, it will take quite a bit more to pull the area out of drought status.

T he U.S. Drought Monitor currently categorizes most of Calloway County’s status as D2 (severe drought), with a small southwestern portion of the county listed as D3 (extreme). The Drought Monitor uses an intensity scale that ranges from D0 (abnormally dry) to D4 (exceptional drought), and it is updated every Thursday.

Justin Holland, Murray’s official government observer for the National Weather Service’s Paducah office, said Murray received about 0.3 inches of rain in the city limits
