FRESNO COUNTY, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – The Southwest Fresno community came together during a vigil for Corday Brown.

Corday's life was cut short Saturday when a truck hit him near the Highway 99 offramp to Cesar Chavez Boulevard.

His father, Cortney, says Corday went above and beyond to make others laugh.

"A bright kid, always smiling. I probably seen him sad one time. That's when his mom passed. I've been taking care of my son since he was three," he explained. "It's still unbelievable. I still can't believe it."

CHP initially said his son was playing in the road when it happened, but Cortney insists that's not the case.

"I know one thing about today is Corday is not going to be playing in the street. He's going to look both ways across the street," Cortney said.
