A lawsuit has been filed against the city of Hickory and Hickory Public Housing Authority by former Hickory housing authority Executive Director Alanda Richardson.

The lawsuit seeks damages against the city and housing authority board, claiming discrimination and a breach of contract after Richardson’s termination in January. Richardson was fired amid discussions by the city about abolishing the housing authority due to low use of housing vouchers. The city also claimed Richardson misused funds.

Richardson was hired as the housing authority’s CEO in 1998, according to the lawsuit.
