Former George Washington Patriots player and Appalachian State head coach Shawn Clark died Sunday at the age of 50, the UCF Athletic Department said.
Clark had suffered a "medical emergency" on Sept. 9 and had remained in stable condition until his passing.
The Charleston native joined the UCF football program last December as the offensive line coach after spending five full seasons as the head coach at Appalachian State.
Clark was tabbed as the leader of the Mountaineers for the final game of the 2019 season, which was App State's bowl game against UAB.
Clark went 40-24 during his tenure with Appalachian State, including three bowl game victories. Two of those three were when he was the coach for the full season.
