After years of planning, raising funds and dreaming, the Broad River Genealogical Society celebrated its new building in Shelby with a ribbon cutting Sept. 11.
City leaders, community members and legislators gathered at the location to tour the new space and hear about the history of the society and how the new building came about.
Located across the street from Pleasant City Church at 1145 County Home Road, the 1,800-square-foot building was constructed in front of the existing cement block structure, more than doubling its space and making room for displays, two computers for research, book shelves full of family histories and county, state and national history books and filing cabinets full of materials.
The mission of the Broad River Genealogical Society is to preserve public record
