FORT RUCKER — The nation's promise to never forget military members held prisoners of war or the some 80,000 still missing in action was honored as soldiers and civilians from communities surrounding the Home of Army Aviation gathered at the Veterans Park on post for a National POW/MIA Day Ceremony Friday morning.
Former "Operations Desert Storm" prisoner of war retired Sgt. First Class Daniel J. Stamaris and his wife, Heather, were among those attending the ceremony. "Dan, your courage and resilience inspire us all," said United States Army Aviation Center of Excellence and Fort Rucker Commanding General Maj. Gen. Clair Gill, recognizing the Army veteran who now lives in Headland. "Thank you for our service to our nation."
