LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) -The election for the Nebraska senate seat currently held by Sen. Pete Ricketts is still over a year out, but campaigns for both the incumbent and challenger Dan Osborn have already begun.

In Lincoln on Monday, Osborn kicked off his campaign to a room full of people at the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers building in town.

Osborn will be running as an independent, as he did against Sen. Deb Fischer in last year’s general election.

“I’m not going to take money from anybody,” Osborn said in his address to all in attendance. “I’m gonna do your bidding, the way it was intended: a government by and for the people. Right now? It’s government for the one percent and the corporations, and I think we’re fed up.”
