Information reaching this publication indicates that a boat carrying passengers to board the Ilala ferry has capsized at Rwarwe Port in Nkhatabay District.

According to one of the passengers, the boat was designed to carry 22 people but was overloaded, leading it to capsize. Fortunately, all passengers survived the incident.

Joseph Banda, Head of Water Transport at Malawi Lake Services, stated that it was not a serious accident as it occurred close to shore and no one was injured.

The Ilala ferry is currently docked at Rwarwe Port on its way to Nkhatabay.
