Texas Republican leader and US Senate candidate Alexander Duncan stirred controversy after opposing the installation of a 90-foot statue of Lord Hanuman, known as the Statue of Union, in Sugar Land, Texas.
Duncan argued that the structure was inappropriate in what he described as a “Christian nation."
“Why are we allowing a false statue of a false Hindu God here in Texas? We are a CHRISTIAN nation," Duncan wrote on X, sharing a video of the statue located at Shri Ashtalakshmi Temple in Sugar Land.
Citing verses from the Bible, Duncan doubled down on his opposition, quoting Exodus 20:3-4 and Romans 1:25 to argue against idol worship.
His remarks quickly drew sharp criticism, with the Hindu American Foundation (HAF) condemning them as “anti-Hindu and inflammatory."
