STAMFORD, CT (WFSB) - A correction officer was arrested for assaulting his wife and kidnapping his two children in Newington, which led to a police pursuit into Stamford, officials said.

Newington police held a news conference shortly after 11 a.m. on Monday to reveal more details.

According to police, 36-year-old John Lacen-Romero threatened self harm and choked his wife at a home at around 12:10 p.m. on Sunday.

In court, prosecutors said they found an electrical cord in the shape of a noose, which they believe Lacen-Romero may have used to strangle his wife. Prosecutors also say the wife was locked in the garage and was afraid she was going to die.

She called police to report the incident.

Lacen-Romero fled with the 9- and 11-year-old children.
