FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- Crews are investigating what caused a three-alarm fire at a commercial building in southeast Fresno.

It happened after 1 am Tuesday on Los Angeles and Broadway.

Firefighters say flames were coming out of the top and bottom of the building.

The building held four businesses, but there is no word if they're active.

Crews say that because of the strength of the flames, they took a defensive approach from the outside.

More firefighters were called in, making the fire a three-alarm blaze.

Crews have not been able to search the building until it's deemed safe to do so.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Firefighters say two of the four businesses are destroyed.
