FARGO — When Luka Rout broke the school record for the Fargo Davies boys cross country team earlier this season, one of the first people he heard from was previous record-holder Hunter Lucas.
“That was very cool to see the sportsmanship that comes from Davies cross country when (Lucas) congratulated me,” Rout said. “That’s really cool to hear from him.”
Lucas went on to have a successful collegiate career at the NCAA Division I level, first at Minnesota and then Boise State following his graduation from Davies in 2017.
Lucas was named North Dakota Powerade Senior Athlete of the Year in Class A boys cross country after the 2016 season, also earning North Dakota Gatorade Player of the Year honors that same year.
He was Davies’ first-ever boys cross country state champion, winning the 201
