Child Benefit payments are being automatically stopped for thousands of households this month.
Parents are being asked to check if they should have notified HMRC they are still eligible to receive the support. If they forgot to do so, they'll need to apply again and this could mean a delay in the benefit being restarted.
"Child Benefit automatically ends when a child turns 16 or finishes full-time education , and that can catch families off guard", said Joe Smithies, money expert at PennyPlan. "If parents do not update HMRC with their child's plans, payments stop abruptly, leaving households facing a sudden gap in income."
