ST. LOUIS ( KMOV /Gray News) - A Missouri man who won half of a $1.787 billion Powerball jackpot, the second-largest lottery jackpot in U.S. history, has claimed his prize .
The Missouri Lottery did not release the winner’s name but said in a news release that he plans to take some time off and enjoy his half of the $1.787 billion jackpot. A Powerball player in Texas won the other half of the prize after both players matched all six numbers drawn Sept. 6.
“I’m going to just do me for a year,” the Missouri winner said.
While only taking home half the jackpot, the man still won about $893.5 million pre-tax. He had the option to claim the full amount over 30 payments or to receive one lump-sum payment of about $410.3 million. He chose the latter.
