Hall of Famer Tommy Lasorda, born Sept. 22, 1927, in Norristown, Penn., is tied with the Los Angeles Dodgers in a way that can only be matched by legendary announcer Vin Scully. Lasorda managed the team to two World Series titles, four pennants and eight division titles from 1976 to 1996. He coached nine players who won Rookie of the Year, including Mike Piazza, who he famously drafted as a favor to Piazza’s father. The outspoken baseball lifer played for the Brooklyn Dodgers and Kansas City Athletics in the 1950s. His career spanned into the 21st century, where he still stole the show with a light-hearted moment at the 2001 All-Star Game when he tumbled trying to avoid an errant bat.
