Alberta Health Services is demanding a contracted ambulance provider repay millions after a financial audit identified a $4.1-million “overpayment” dating to 2013 — including nearly $1 million the health authority says was “misappropriated” by the EMS operator.
In a July 30, 2025, letter obtained by Postmedia, AHS warned the Wheatland and Adjacent Districts Emergency Medical Services Association (WADEMSA) it is prepared to start withholding more than $250,000 per month from the association if a plan to repay the $4.1 million is not in place by Oct. 1.
The AHS audit identified $4,139,700 in overpayments to WADEMSA between 2013 and 2024. According to the letter, nearly $1 million of that was used to cover deficits related to dispatch services — an expense AHS said fell outside its contract
