SACRAMENTO, Calif. —

Suspected vandalism to what officials call "critical light rail infrastructure" impacted train service on Monday.

Sacramento Regional Transit said the vandalism occurred along the Gold Line sometime overnight from Sunday into Monday, and impacted the service between the Butterfield and 29th Street stations.

Service was down between the two stations throughout the day.

"Our crews responded quickly, and a bus bridge (shuttle buses between stations) was put in place to keep riders moving," SacRT told KCRA 3.

SacRT said it was working closely with its safety and security team to decrease the likelihood of similar incidents in the future.

The extent of the damage caused by the vandalism is unclear.
