A week-long inquest into the 2020 death of a Sarnia Jail inmate started Monday with a touching tribute.

A letter written by Brent Moore’s daughter was read out loud. In it, she touched on his childhood and background, but also his personality.

“He was funny and kind, adventurous and loving, honest and brave,” the letter said.

She also called him an amazing dad and said she wished more than anything she could have him back.

Moore died on Aug. 30, 2020, two days after he was found without vital signs in his cell at the Christina Street North jail and rushed to Bluewater Health. This week’s inquest, mandatory under the Coroners Act, will examine the circumstances surrounding his death while a jury can make recommendations – without placing blame – aimed at preventing further deaths.
