CARBONDALE, Ill. (WSIL) -- Carbondale police said their officers arrested Hakeem Smith on September 20, after a confrontation on East Grand Avenue.
Police said Smith, 36, was wanted on a federal probation violation warrant. When officers attempted to arrest him, police said Smith resisted and caused a minor injury to one officer.
During the arrest, officers reported they discovered Smith had a loaded firearm. According to online court records, Smith faces charges of two counts of aggravated battery of a peace officer, one aggravated unlawful possession of a weapon, resisting arrest and felon in possession of a weapon.
Smith was taken to the Jackson County Jail. He has a preliminary hearing set for October 7, 2025 in the Jackson County Courthouse.
