MAKANDA, Ill. (WSIL) -- A crash on Monday evening in Jackson County resulted in the death of one person.
The Jackson County Sheriff's Office said the incident took place on Old Highway 51 near Cedar Creek Road in Makanda at 8:30 p.m., on September 22.
The sheriff's office said a silver 2015 Toyota Crossover, driven by 49-year-old from Makanda, collided with a bicyclist. The Toyota was traveling southbound and had two juvenile passengers.
Despite efforts from the Jackson County Ambulance Service, the sheriff's office said the bicyclist was pronounced dead at the scene. The identity of the deceased is pending confirmation.
Traffic on Old Highway 51 was closed and redirected for about two hours while authorities cleared the scene.
