Four adults were seriously injured Tuesday morning when the SUV they were in collided with a tractor trailer along Main Street in Palmer Township.

Township Police Chief Wayne Smith told lehighvalleylive.com the accident happened just after 5:10 a.m. and involved the driver and three passengers of a Nissan Pathfinder.

The Nissan driver and front-seat passenger had to be extricated from the SUV, with the two backseat passengers escaping on their own, police said.

All four were taken to area hospitals for treatment. The driver and front-seat passenger remained in critical condition at 10:30 a.m., while the other two occupants were stable, police said.

The driver of the rig was not injured, Smith said.
