The public have been urged to avoid contact with wild birds at one of Cork's most popular leisure spots after cases of Avian Flu have been confirmed.

Cork City Council has urged people to avoid contact with any sick or dead wild birds they may spot at The Lough following confirmation of a number of cases of avian influenza at the wildfowl sanctuary.

The highly pathogenic Avian Influenza HPAI (H5N1), commonly known as bird flu, is currently circulating in wild birds and has been detected following tests on a number of birds which were found dead at the leisure spot on the city's southside.
