NOVI, MI – Two people died after multiple vehicles caught fire in a crash on I-96.

According to WXYZ-TV in Detroit , the Novi Police Department responded to eastbound I-96 near Beck Road at 2 a.m. on Tuesday.

Police say a vehicle had stopped on the road due to a mechanical issue when another driver crashed into it, causing both to catch fire.

The drivers of both vehicles were pronounced dead at the scene, according to the TV station. They have not been identified by name.

Motorists should avoid the area as an investigation is underway.
