As municipal election campaigns ramp up across the province, candidates are out meeting voters and putting up signs. But for some, that part of the campaign comes with a frustrating downside – having those signs stolen or vandalized.

That type of activity can infiltrate elections at all levels.

One of the candidates affected is Wendy Squires Ennis, who is running for a council seat in Portugal Cove-St. Philips. She has no idea why somebody would remove her signs.

She says 20 of 28 were taken. A person out walking his dog found some of them.

Squires has filed a report with the RNC.

She says she broke down and cried as she drove around the town and saw what had happened, but quickly recovered. Squires Ennis says the incident only strengthens her resolve.
