LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A man is dead after police say he was struck by a vehicle Monday night while walking down a Louisville interstate.

At about 10:20 p.m., Louisville Metro police responded to a motor vehicle collision on the eastbound lanes of I-264 between Bells Lane and Dumesnil Street, according to an LMPD news release.

Investigators believe a car was traveling eastbound on I-264 when the driver struck a man who was walking in the roadway "for some unknown reason."

The vehicle and driver immediately stopped and called for emergency assistance. EMS arrived on scene quickly and pronounced the victim dead on scene.

The driver who police say was not hurt was taken to an area hospital to be checked out.
