One person has been hospitalized after a car fell off an overpass on Route 283 in Mount Joy Township and caught fire Monday afternoon.

Around 4:45 p.m. Monday, dispatchers with Lancaster County-Wide Communications reported that a sedan driving on Route 283 east had gone off the roadway and onto Beverly Road near the Hershey/Elizabethtown exit.

According to the emergency responders at the scene, the vehicle was on its side and engulfed in fire when they arrived.

The Elizabethtown Fire Department, the primary responder, said the fire was extinguished and Beverly Road was reopened within an hour.

The driver of the vehicle was transported to the hospital. Dispatchers were unable to comment on the extent of their injuries.
