From home owners loans to bank accounts, you need your Social Security number for just about every major financial move you make.

And while most people know better than to plaster sensitive information such as their Social Security number online, the Social Security Administration warns the public that there is more to keeping your Social Security card safe than hiding it.

A less obvious guideline for safekeeping your Social Security card is to not laminate your card.
