An evacuation alert for the Suey Bay fire area was lifted by the Cariboo Regional District on Monday, Sept. 22 at 11:30 a.m.

The alert, issued at 5:30 p.m. on Sept. 18, applied to two parcels and covered an area of 4,598 hectares between Horsefly and Quesnel Lakes.

Residents should remain prepared to leave should an evacuation order or alert be reissued in the future.

The Suey Bay fire continued to be listed by the BC Wildfire Service as out of control on Monday, Sept. 22, measuring at 2,331.25 hectares. However, a cold front brought rain overnight Sept. 21 to 22, reducing fire activity significantly. While wind was expected to pick up, the BCWS did not anticipate difficulties containing the fire due to the prior rain and cool weather.
