During his recent speech at the United Nations, US President Donald Trump took the opportunity to mock the organisation after experiencing a broken escalator and a malfunctioning teleprompter. He humorously remarked, "These are the two things I got from the United Nations, a bad escalator and a bad teleprompter."

As he arrived at the UN building in New York, the escalator unexpectedly stopped while he was using it. Trump commented on the teleprompter issue, stating, "I don't mind making this speech without a teleprompter, because the teleprompter is not working... I can only say that whoever is operating this teleprompter is in big trouble."

In his speech, Trump reiterated his claims about having "stopped" several wars and expressed frustration with the UN, saying, "Never even got a call from the United Nations in finalising the deal. All I got from the United Nations was an escalator that, on the way up, stopped right in the middle. If the First Lady wasn't in great shape, she would have fallen. But she's in great shape, we both are in great shape…we both stood. And then a teleprompter that didn't work."

He also reflected on his past attempts to renovate the UN headquarters, lamenting the choice of terrazzo floors over the marble he had proposed, adding, "They still haven’t finished the job."

Kicking off his speech, Trump referred to his governance as the "Golden Age of America." This address marked his first appearance at the UN General Assembly since returning to office in January.
