CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) - Charlotte’s community came together to remember 23-year-old Iryna Zarutska , a Ukrainian woman who was stabbed to death on a Charlotte light rail one month ago on Monday.
It was an emotional vigil in South End Charlotte as people filled the street in front of the East/West Boulevard Station to remember Zarutska’s story.
“You saw everyone of all ages, young and old, all types of origins in background, then just felt nice to have that sense of community,” said Lily Church.
Many people came from outside the Charlotte area, and some even came from out of state. Most people WBTV spoke with said coming here was an essential first step in bringing the community together.
