ABC suspended Kimmel "indefinitely" on Sept. 17. Hours before the suspension, FCC Chairman Brendan Carr threatened Kimmel, ABC, Disney and network affiliates over comments Kimmel made during his opening monologue about the man charged with killing Charlie Kirk .

Carr said, on a conservative podcast, "There's calls for Kimmel to be fired. I think you could certainly see a path forward for suspension over this."

President Donald Trump gloated that Kimmel had been fired. The network only suspended him.
