The Clinton City Schools Board of Education spent a good portion of its meeting last Wednesday night focused on one of the district’s most ambitious projects in years, the planning and design of a new PreK-2 elementary school. While the school’s construction remains several steps away, discussion centered on the crucial early question of where the facility might eventually be built.

SfL+a Architects, the firm contracted to design the building, presented several conceptual designs and walked the board through preliminary considerations for site selection. Superintendent Dr. Wesley Johnson said the conversation was not entirely what school leaders expected when the item first appeared on the agenda.

“We were not really aware that that was going to be a topic of discussion,” Johnson said. “
