PORTALES, N.M. (KRQE) – Nearly a decade after a mom and daughter were arrested for leaving two infants in a hot car, leading to the death of a 22-month-old, the former daycare workers have now struck a plea deal in their case. The deal will result in a prison sentence shorter than the one initially ordered by a judge.

Facing the families of the two kids involved in the case, Sandi and Mary Taylor were both in court Monday, offering apologies once again for a case that's taken years of legal turns. “I want to apologize to the family and to Erika, and we pray for them all the time," said defendant Mary Taylor.

Mary and Sandi Taylor struck a plea deal Monday that lessens their sentence from 36 years in prison to 12 years.
