The Mike Gundy era has ended at Oklahoma State.
The 58-year-old coach has been fired as OSU’s football coach, the Tulsa World has confirmed from a high ranking OSU official. It ends his 21-year run running the program.
Tuesday’s news was abrupt, but not unexpected. OSU has lost 11 of its past 12 games dating back to last season with its only victory coming against a lower-tier FCS opponent.
During Monday’s scheduled press conference, Gundy said he had no interest in this season being his last as OSU’s coach.
“One hundred percent,” Gundy said with a grin. “That’s a good question. I like that question.”
It’s unknown who will be the interim coach. Candidates would include offensive coordinator Doug Meacham and defensive coordinator Todd Grantham.
