WARWICK, R.I. (WPRI) — A former Rhode Island State Police sergeant who was forced off the job after being pulled over for suspicion of drunk driving has taken a plea deal, Target 12 has learned.

Court records show Nuno Vasconcelos, 51, of Johnston, pleaded no contest to reckless driving in exchange for prosecutors dismissing an obstruction charge on Tuesday morning.

The agreement in court comes after fellow troopers stopped him in March under suspicion of DUI, but Vasconcelos wasn't given a field sobriety test and his then-colleagues let him drive away from the scene without consequence.
