People in the area near Lakeview Cemetery may heard what sounds like explosions and gunfire on Wednesday.
They should not be alarmed, though, as it will be part of a police training exercise.
Between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m., Wednesday, the Niagara Regional Police explosive disposal and emergency task units will be training in the area of Thorold Townline Road and Old Thorold Stone Road on the east side of the Welland Canal, just south of the cemetery.
Police said people nearby should expect an increased police presence during that time. There will be the sounds of explosions and simulated gun shots, as well as the smell of smoke.
Police will post signs in the area to advise people of the exercise.
People are asked to stay away from the training sites for both their safety and the officers
