An Edmonton high school teacher is facing child pornography charges after an investigation that also led to charges against a music tutor he lived with.

The Alberta Law Enforcement Response Team (ALERT) on Tuesday announced charges of possessing and accessing child sex abuse material against the two men. The investigation began after a tip that someone was sharing illegal content on the social media app Kik.

The accused are Katz Dawson, a 36-year-old teacher at Lillian Osborne High School, and 32-year-old Allan Nelson, who offered home-based music lessons under the name Fiddle & Fugue. ALERT said the two lived in the same home, which officers searched on Sept. 11.

Investigators seized encrypted electronic devices that contained child sex abuse material, ALERT said.
