AUGUSTA, Maine — Gov. Janet Mills and MaineHousing have announced $2.3 million in state grants to support 12 overnight emergency warming centers across seven Maine counties this winter.
The funding, which was announced Tuesday, will help to provide a total of 338 overnight beds in Penobscot, Hancock, Kennebec, Cumberland, Aroostook, Androscoggin, and York counties, the governor's office said in a press release.
During the winter of 2024-2025, warming centers across Maine helped more than 1,800 people with temporary shelter during the coldest months, according to the state.
