Oklahoma State offensive coordinator Doug Meacham speaks during a press conference at Boone Pickens Stadium in Stillwater Okla., on Thursday, Jan. 23, 2025.

The Mike Gundy era at Oklahoma State officially came to an end on Tuesday.

Gundy was fired after 21 seasons in Stillwater. He leaves as the winningest coach in program history with a 170-90 record, and it leaves Utah's Kyle Whittingham — who was also hired ahead of the 2025 season — as the sole second-longest tenured head coach in the FBS.

After a 3-9 finish last fall in which the Cowboys went winless in Big 12 play, it's been another rough start for OSU in the 2025 season. Gundy's team was 1-2, taking its worst loss in more than a century in a 69-3 loss to Oregon before falling 19-12 to Tulsa in Friday night, which was the Golden Hurricane's first win in Stillwater since 1951.

With Gundy out, offensive coordinator Doug Meacham will serve as the interim head coach for the remaining nine games in 2025.

Who is Oklahoma State interim head coach Doug Meacham?

Meacham, who was one of two new coordinators hired this past offseason as part of Gundy's staff overhaul, will take the reins at his alma mater.

He was most recently an assistant at TCU from 2020-24, where he was an inside wide receivers coach in his final three seasons. He also served as the offensive coordinator in 2021 after previously holding that role with the Horned Frogs during a previous stint from 2014-16.

Meacham has extensive play-calling experience, also holding offensive coordinator roles at Kansas, Houston, Samford, Henderson State, Jacksonville State and Georgia Military.

He is currently in his third stint as a coach at Oklahoma State, where he played from 1983-87 as an offensive lineman. The 60-year-old was a graduate assistant working with the offensive line and linebackers for the Cowboys from 1989-91, and he returned to coach inside receivers and tight ends under Gundy from 2005-12.
