After garnering nationwide attention and with unsubstantiated claims and rumors circulating in the community, Yuma Chief Thomas Garrity addressed the Sept. 13 road rage incident that left a 17-year-old teenage boy dead.

Acknowledging that the events “have deeply affected our community,” Garrity asked for patience as the incident is investigated. He explained why finding answers to the questions being asked about the circumstances that led to the teen’s death have taken time.

“Let me be clear, transparency remains a core value of this department. We are committed to openness and accountability,” he said. “At the same time, Arizona state law places certain legal limits on the information that we can release, especially when there are active and ongoing investigations and court proceedings.
